Apple Bids Farewell To Topsy Labs

Apple has finally closed down Topsy Labs on Tuesday
Apple Inc., the tech giant has finally bid farewell to Topsy Labs when the company has decided to close it down on Tuesday. Apple had initially acquired the startup which is said to be data specialist for the social media platform Twitter. The company invested heavily for its acquisition where they had to spend $200 million to make it their property back in the fiscal year of 2013. The platform was a great source of help to offer a breakdown of the market in real time with the help of concrete analysis, twitter data and tweets etc.

For instance, the social media analytics platform had the ability to gauge the effectiveness of an advertisement by making use of the analytics metrics. The software would take the user response and the engagement level that the advertisement aroused in the viewers. According to the profile information of the software on Twitter, “Every tweet ever published. Previously at your fingertips.” Topy when it first revealed its tweet mentioned about what it wished to achieve in the future. It stated, “We’ve searched our last tweet.” however, this was the last tweet made by them since they were acquired by Apple products and services.

When Apple initially bought this platform, it was said to be one of the four firms that were coined as the certified data sellers that had special rights allowing them to garner and distribute the data from Twitter. However, the company adheres strictly to its policy of ensuring secrecy thus they never revealed how they actually made use of the analytical tool.

It was initially assumed that the reason behind the accusation of Topsy was that the data being mined could help the company in making the marketing strategies for Apple iAd. This would assist them in promoting themselves better. Moreover, this software might have also helped in running the back end functionalities of Apple iOS 9 like allowing Siri to make accurate suggestions. Search results could also benefit with the help of better algorithm that could conduct intelligent searches for Calendar, App Store, iTunes and other third party applications.

However, the company has officially bid farewell to the startup which rings several bells. They spent a heft amount to acquire the platform and now it seems that the money invested went down the drain. Apple is known for making aggressive investments that benefit them in the long run. However, this might not be the case with Topsy Labs as it seems.
